About half of Huntington Park's housing units were built before 1960 and another 30 percent in the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1980s, the town erected 1,700 units and in the last decade, about 1,100 units. In single homes, the town favored two and three bedrooms aimed at veterans and people just getting into the housing market.

Huntington Park remains a good place to pick up a home for a reasonable price and is popular with immigrants.

The state in 2008 counted 15,446 housing units: 5,276 single homes, 2,381 single attached, 7,774 multiples, 15 mobiles. In the 1990s, Huntington Park's population increased by 5,200 people and its housing stock by 343 units. www.mccormacks.com

Education by Los Angeles Unified School District. Sample rankings: Miles Avenue Elementary, 20th and 30th percentile; Gage Middle School, 10th percentile; Huntington Park High, 30th percentiles. In 2006, Pacific Charter Schools won city permission to open a charter school. See Schools.

Two homicides in 2005, seven in 2004, eight in 2003, six each in 2002 and 2001, two in 2000. Counts for previous years are 6, 13, 8, 4, 11, 8, 9, 8, 14, 12. Many homes have security doors. Huntington Park has its own police department. See Crime.

Library. Six parks, including a large municipal park, and the usual recreation activities: baseball, soccer, etc. On weekends, residents take to the shops, restaurants and stores along Pacific Boulevard. Lively section.

Five minutes to downtown L.A. Close to Interstate 110. Buses. Many jobs in and near downtown and in Vernon and Commerce. Light rail to downtown Los Angles and to Long Beach.

Town's developer chose name to honor Henry E. Huntington, his friend and one of the richest men in country. www.mccormacks.com
