One of the
older suburbs of county. Just about built out and now working to rejuvenate its
downtown by adding 500 to 800 housing units (some in seven-story buildings),
stores, offices and a transit center.

1998. Older kids attend Mt. Miguel, Helix and Monte Vista High schools in the
Grossmont district, which in 2004 passed a $274 million renovation-building

Lemon Grove got its spurt after World
War II, mainly in the late 1940s and the 1950s. In those two decades, it built
about 40 percent of its housing stock. www.mccormacks.com
Unlike
many other cities, Lemon Grove managed to keep some of its country atmosphere.
Some homes have large lots, some streets dispense with sidewalks. Going
east-west, Lemon Grove covers about 26 blocks and north-south, about 22.
State in
2008 counted 8,778 housing units, of which 5,801 were single-family detached,
716 single attached, 2,164 multiples and 97 mobile homes. In the 1990s, Lemon
Grove built about 600 units.
Lemon
Grove has a dated, dry look, thanks to the age of the homes and thanks in part
to the sunshine (by local count, over 300 sun days a year). Residents generally
keep up homes. Dominant style is the single-family home.
If you’re
shopping for a first home and must watch the price, towns like Lemon Grove
offer many choices.
