Safety
grates cover some doors and windows. Citizen groups are working to divert the
young people into safer pursuits. Police squad assigned to neighborhood and
thanks to a variety of efforts crime has decreased but on some streets it
remains a problem. In 2007, a woman cycling through Ingleside was shot and
seriously wounded.
Government
center opened in 2005. Houses representatives of city departments and bring
services closer to residents.
Three parks, at least one with
recreation center. Short drive to the Pacific and Golden Gate Park. www.mccormacks.com
SF State
University and the City College are loaded with recreational facilities that the
locals can use. These institutions also offer many classes and activities open
to the public.
This is a
neighborhood that almost demands to be driven for its merits and its
shortcomings. Some of the older homes command great views. As you move north,
homes and appearances improve markedly and some streets stand out. Some blocks
mix homes in need of repair and attention with homes that have been well kept.
Just above Ocean Avenue, the major shopping boulevard in this section, there is a lovely neighborhood of bungalows (Westwood Park) built probably in the 1920s.
Many homes follow the designs of the Sunset District — two story, garage below, stairs to front door, which opens into living room.
Unusual
street design. Urbano Drive, an oval, traces what used to be Ingleside
Racetrack.
Fog belt.
Often cold in summer, balmy in winter.
One of the
longer hauls to the downtown, but buses and BART available, Interstate 280
close by. BART station in nearby Daly City. www.mccormacks.com
