Hamlet in the hills, off Howell Mountain Road. Population 3,148 (2000 census), about 1,500 of them students at Pacific Union College, the great influence in the town. Many of the college students are pursuing medical careers.
Median age of residents is 24. Children and teens under 18 make up 15 percent of residents.

Place for the young at heart and just plain young. About 61 percent of Angwin is under age 30. Parks, tennis courts. A few shops and offices in plaza. Homes hidden in trees and shrubs. Landing strip nearby. On Fridays, the college observatory attracts about two dozen people who scan the heavens.
One elementary school, Howell Mountain, about 60 students spread over kindergarten-through-eighth grades. Enrollment in some classes is fewer than a dozen. With numbers this small, school rankings are almost useless. One or two students scoring high or low can skew results.
Angwin sits on a mesa. Drive a bit and down you go. Place has air of mountain village. Trees and flowers and miles of open country. Residents occasionally spot a mountain lion. Watch your pets!
